Writing is a time consuming and robust field to go in to and unfortunately, it's commitment isn't for everybody. It's most definitely possible to enjoy the ideologies and samples of writing without wanting to be a writer. But what if you've been in the world of creative writing for a long time without actually understanding "how to write"? Dorothy, a long-time reader, seems to struggle with the ideas and concepts of writing. I sat down with her to go into further detail about this.
She started by saying how she had never tried writing but wanted to start. She felt like her difficulty of thinking too literally has restricted her from doing so. I then asked her about the aspects of writing that she struggles with, which ties into the previous question. She doesn't quite understand the "show don't tell" concept of writing. "I see a house, it's a house. A tree's a tree. A bird's a bird." The idea seemed to astonish her.
Another concept that she has a hard time with is researching. She's blown away by the work that goes into researching and networking for the sake of writing a book.
